Sai Baba of Shirdi

225

This mesmerizing piece of olive wood conveys great depth, silence and beauty. The wood has been carefully burnt to create a three-dimensional effect, imparting this piece with a timeless, ancient quality bringing to life this image of the great Sage, Sri Sai Baba of Shirdi.

This photo was taken in 1903 as Sai Baba sat in front of his ‘dhuni’, the perpetually burning fire which was lit by Baba himself and is still alive to this day. It is said that deeply absorbed, and looking at the sacred fire, Baba would often say, “Allah Mallik, Allah Mallik”. This means: God is the Master, God is the sole owner, King of Kings.
