Madonna & Child ~ Unwavering Love

55

An icon of Mother Mary absorbed, conveying her deep faith and purity. This piece was created using the image transfer technique on fine wood, and enhanced with touches of acrylic and watercolour paint. A golden halo surrounds her, symbolizing the divine light of God. The infant Jesus embraces her lovingly, representing salvation and the boundless love of God.

Icons of this style date back to the Byzantine Empire (330 to 1453 AD) and early Renaissance era. These have been a central feature of Eastern Orthodox, Greek, and Slavic Christianity. The art of ‘writing an icon’ is considered a spiritual discipline, as they are revered not merely as paintings but as windows to the Divine and channels for Grace.

Description

The Catalonia Mooji Sangha, based in Spain, has been gathering regularly since 2016.
A few years ago, they were inspired to meet in the wood workshop of one of their members, Casper, where they began carving wooden crosses to offer to others.
The joy of creating together led them to continue meeting at the workshop, where they now craft shrine ornaments, pendants, and more. Each piece unfolds slowly, often over several weeks, with many hands contributing to its creation. Rooted in selfless service and guided by a natural flow of spirit, these works are offered from the heart.
